The Department of Energy’s expanded investment in Tribal grid modernization opens a door that forward-thinking Nations should walk through now. For decades, many reservations have remained dependent on regional utility grids that were never designed with Tribal communities as a priority. When those grids fail, Tribal services fail with them. Microgrid-ready infrastructure, solar integration, battery storage, and islanding capability belong in every project conversation from day one, as baseline expectations in responsible facility design.

The DOE’s technical assistance programs and funding pathways give Tribes a practical entry point into grid independence, and the architectural decisions made today will determine how fully a community can leverage that support. A gaming enterprise, a health clinic, or an administration building should be capable of operating autonomously when the regional grid goes down. WORTHGROUP works with Tribal leadership to ensure those decisions are made early in the design process, before budgets are set and systems are locked in. Tribes deserve nothing less.
