WORTHGROUP Architects provided architectural and design services for the Wa She Shu Casino and Travel Plaza, a signature destination for the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada located along Highway 395 in Gardnerville. The project represents a key milestone in the Tribe’s economic development efforts, combining hospitality, gaming, and convenience amenities into one cohesive experience.
The 13,267-square-foot, $4.8 million facility features 4,605 square feet of gaming space and 1,505 square feet of dining, creating a welcoming and efficient layout that enhances both visitor experience and operational flow. The adjoining travel plaza complements the casino with retail, fueling, and quick-service offerings designed to attract travelers and support local businesses.
Blending contemporary design with regional materials and cultural inspiration, the facility establishes a distinct visual identity for the Washoe Tribe while serving as a hub of activity for the surrounding community. Opened in May 2016, the Wa She Shu Casino and Travel Plaza created 80–100 local jobs and continues to contribute to the economic vitality of the region.
